The aim of the exhibition at the TUM Architecture Museum is to highlight the origins of tea—a delicacy consumed daily in Europe—as a colonial commodity. To this end, the exhibition traces the spaces and architectural structures where tea was grown and processed on the plantations of West Java, as well as the ways in which it was transported and stored between Batavia and Hamburg, and sold and consumed in Germany, including Munich.
