The Dieter Schwarz Foundation supports specialization in the master's program in Information Engineering

TUM Campus Heilbronn strengthens its expertise in chip design

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Dieter Schwarz Foundation (DSS) have signed a funding agreement for a new specialization in chip design within the existing master’s program in Information Engineering. Over the course of six years, the DSS will fund the necessary personnel, organizational, and technical resources at the TUM Campus Heilbronn. The program is scheduled to begin in the 2026/27 winter semester.

Launching a start-up through a master’s thesis

The TUM Entrepreneurial Masterclass uniquely combines degree programs with start-up activity. In their master’s thesis, students can explore a research question that is crucial to their own start-up or another TUM spin-off, or they can investigate how entrepreneurship support can be improved. Around 80 start-ups have already emerged from the program. For this achievement, the Masterclass has now been awarded the “MöglichMacher 2026”, the Bavarian university prize for entrepreneurship.

TUM develops intelligent 3D twins of crime scenes

A crime scene is often accessible only for a short period of time. During that time, all relevant evidence must be documented quickly, and even small details can prove crucial. Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) are working together to fundamentally transform this process. How fair does AI seem in job interviews?

Many companies rely on AI for recruitment. A new study shows that job applicants mostly trust the avatars conducting their interviews – but only until they receive a rejection. How fair this decision is perceived to be depends on the avatars’ identity characteristics. The test subjects who felt treated the most unfairly were not those who differed most from the avatar – but rather those who matched it in either gender or skin color.

Using drones to measure eruptive gases more accurately

Better prediction of volcanic eruptions

To better assess the danger posed by volcanoes, researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have developed a new measurement system. Laser beams are sent through escaping gas clouds and reflected by drones. An algorithm uses the reflected signals to generate a map showing gas concentrations, including elevated carbon dioxide levels. The ratio of carbon dioxide to sulfur dioxide is an important indicator of impending eruptions.
