“MöglichMacher” award for TUM Entrepreneurial Masterclass

Launching a start-up through a master’s thesis

The TUM Entrepreneurial Masterclass uniquely combines degree programs with start-up activity. In their master’s thesis, students can explore a research question that is crucial to their own start-up or another TUM spin-off, or they can investigate how entrepreneurship support can be improved. Around 80 start-ups have already emerged from the program. For this achievement, the Masterclass has now been awarded the “MöglichMacher 2026”, the Bavarian university prize for entrepreneurship.

Startup SE3 Labs develops spatial AI

How autonomous systems learn to understand their environment

Generative AI like ChatGPT can write text, generate images, and even write code. But when it comes to the physical world, these models reach their limits. They have only a limited understanding of spaces and changes in the environment. The team at the startup SE3 Labs has developed a spatial AI technology that uses images, videos, and map data to create realistic 3D models. The technology is already being used in numerous projects by the German Armed Forces.

ERC Proof of Concept funding for medical applications and nanocoatings

Five ERC grants awarded to TUM researchers

A newly discovered receptor could form the basis for a diabetes therapy. Physical principles underlying vascular networks are enabling the development of new sensors to study thrombosis. A modified signaling molecule activates the body’s immune defenses in the fight against cancer – these are three of the five projects by TUM researchers that will receive ERC Proof of Concept grants. Through these grants, the European Research Council (ERC) supports innovations based on research findings.
