Munich, Bavaria, and TUM present plans for Olympics 20XX

Making the case for Munich's Olympic bid

Munich is set to bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games – following a decisive vote in a public referendum in fall 2025. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will decide this fall which city will represent Germany in the international bidding process. On July 21, representatives of Germany’s leading Olympic sports federations gathered at the Technical University of Munich’s Olympic Park campus to learn about the sports-related initiatives included in Munich’s bid concept.

Handover of the Kinderoase at TUM

First permanent building in Europe by star architect and TUM Professor Francis Kéré

The first permanent building by star architect Prof. Francis Kéré in Europe is located at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). After just over two years of construction, the “Kinderoase at TUM” has been handed over In future, up to 60 children of TUM staff members will be cared for in the vertical kindergarten. Kéré was awarded the Pritzker Prize, also known as the “Nobel Prize for Architecture”, in 2022 and is a Professor of Architectural Design and Participation at TUM.

New record number of TUM spin-offs in 2025

Presidential Award for space start-up

The start-up OroraTech has been honored with the TUM Presidential Entrepreneurship Award for developing a satellite system capable of detecting wildfires. The other finalists for this year’s award were DeepDrive, with a highly efficient electric motor, and Lio Technologies, with AI agents that streamline procurement in companies. The award was presented at TUM Entrepreneurship Day.

Democracy is under significant pressure: according to recent studies, only 45 percent of Germans still trust democracy, down from 54 percent in 2023. TUM President Hofmann to Chair the Board of Trustees

The Deutsches Museum has a new Chair of its Board of Trustees. Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), is taking over the leadership of the museum's highest decision-making body. He had previously served as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. After eight years, he succeeds Prof. Andreas Biagosch, who did not seek another term as required by the bylaws.

Strengthening German-Chinese collaboration

TUM expands cooperation with Shanghai Jiao Tong University

New program for spin-offs from the social sciences

Research with greater impact

Through the new Catalyst GER program, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) will support research teams that aim to achieve sustainable societal impact through a spin-off or other forms of knowledge transfer.
